Hi Steve,

The cpu is no major bottleneck, at least in my setup.
I will end up with 1 ms sbs 2011 server vm, 1 win 7 desktop vm and 1 linux vm.
The server has some initial cpu spikes, especially when you start up the admin tools.
I have heard from a colleague that the cpu also spikes with a "normal" quadcore cpu.
In regular operation the server cpu load will be very low.
There will be enough cpu power for the win 7 vm.
I will do more testing these weeks.

Best regards,

dirk adamsky

Thanks for the reply. My plan is a simple esxi with whs2003 under it. My micro server has 8gb mem and 6tb storage. If you got esxi working w/ that raid controller I may end up going that approach. How I'd the CPU fare in your setup? Was it a major bottleneck?

Hi Steve,

I work a couple of years (I think 4 or 5) with VMware.
From my experience the disk io is the most important parameter (more than memory and cpu) for the performance of a VMware server.
That's why I didn't even test the onboard controller because I quite sure that it will not deliver enough performance for me.
The onboard controller is good for test setups, not for a production environment.
I need the extra features the p410 has for me, like hot swappable disks, etc.

Best regards,

Dirk Adamsky

Dirk;
I was wondering how your esxI performance was using the build in microserver controller. I read that it is quite slow. Slow enough where I may try hyper-v before I try esxi. I was wondering your experiences with this.

Thanks for posting the notice about hrecipe not working on a certain page.

WordPress is such a large ecosystem, hard to track of all possible interactions.

I'm working on the plugin again, so let me know if you have problems in the future.

Thanks,
